Just picked up a 94 D1 with R380.
1,2,3,5,R all locate and pull fine.
4th locates but nothing happens/doesn't "catch".
My mechanic (who drives D1 with R380) said he thought it could be the fork that was broken.
Does that sound plausible/likely?

I'm also considering a rebuild on my own. I've heard its not all that complicated. How much of a pain is it to pull the trans from the truck without a lift though?

Honestly if I have to drop the trans myself I'd just assume rebuild it myself. Then I know the parts and history of it.

My question basically is does a broken fork sound like a possible cause to those with experience?

Ok, so I educated myself a little. The same fork is used for 3rd and 4th. If the fork were broken I wouldn't think I'd have 3rd gear, which I do.
So I'll check the bias plate, otherwise probably the synchro?
