R380 input Shaft

Hey...
soooo on the hunt to get my truck up and running and sort out the issues with clutch/tranny, i am hoping that somewhere will know. Taking alook in the workmanuals i cannot tell if to replace the input shaft you need to take the whole r380 apart.. or if you can just take off the front cover with the bearing on it...
anyone know?
Thanks
craig
