Quick Comparison - Distributor Caps Lucas vs OEM LR

Quick Photos of Distributor caps

Observations - OEM LR is much heavier and beefier - looks better made
same for the Rotors as well, thicker copper, better made (?) heavier.

All Pictures have Proline / Lucas Part # PLI001 and Proline ($18.50) / Lucas Rotor arm Part # PLI002 ($8.50)
on LEFT

Land Rover OEM Distributor Cap # STC 8368 ($58.95) and STC 1857 ($39.50)
on the RIGHT

Except for the picture looking straight down on the Caps and rotors Pictures 3&4- they are reversed (sorry didn't see a way to fix that here)

just incase anyone was wondering...ever.....

Yeah.. Rovers north, I bought new plug wires today (OEM) cheapest price was the dealer @$83.95 with tax.

I need to check them first since overnight shipping was free

I think the Lucas is fine but it doesn't fit as securely as the oem one IMHO

as you note you get what you pay for. The best wires I have found for rover v8's are the magnecor's.

Bought the set on Trey's truck for about the same price you list for oem on ebay.

I ordered an "OEM" cap and rotor for the defender a couple years a go from one of the regulars. I ended up bending over and ordering Genuine from Rovers North. The quality is better, I think the truck is a little happier as well. Water pumps cap/rotor are worth the extra money.

I ordered a lucas cap and was disappointed to see that it is not the same as the OEM cap. Green box and everything. It looks like proline and lucas use the same manufacturer based on the ejector pin locations in the mold.

Left to right
Lucas ordered from the wedge shop; Automoto or something, Italian made and from Rock auto; proline; OEM

OEM is MUCH denser than the others, has more plastic around the backs of the contacts, has the reinforced webbing, and lacks the ejector pin spots on the mold.
