Preferred Coolant and Synthetic Engine Oil

Did a search and found a wide range of feedback.

Would like to get a concise enough answer

what is your preferred coolant and engine oil?

Thanks

I use Peak Final Charge 50/50 Extended Life Antifreeze, its probably overkill for this application but still.

You can't really go wrong with Rotella or Mobil on oil, but I am sure there are plenty of opinions on that front.

A V8? Any normal coolant is fine and really any engine oil. It helps to have an oil designed for flat tappet lifters. A diesel engine oil is usually the simplest route. Synthetics are a waste of time as it has little effect on wear rates with these old engine designs, based on my review of oil analysis.

I use 15w30 in everything. That way, if I have to add oil to the Tdi, I can't grab the wrong oil off the shelf by mistake.

Thumbs up

The experts use Castrol 10W-30 GTX
Change every 3 months/3k miles
I've been using this oil for ten years in my D90 with no issues, no sludge, no build up.

Everyone has ther own opinion on oil. The most important thing is to change using the interval mentioned above...

Cheers...

Be sure it is "OR" - if you don't use the truck daily you may not get to 3K in 3 months - I never do.

What 'experts' are recommending 10w-30? Unless you live in the cold.
I'm running Rotella 15w-40 thinking as most do here.

As others pointed out, literally any "green" coolant from Advance Auto / AutoZone, and I use Rotella 15w40 for oil (which as Red90 pointed out is technically a diesel oil, I use it in all my "non-modern" cars).

Green prestone and 15/40 rotella or 10/40 mobile 1 in summer and 5/30 in winter. That "experts" comment cracked me up--- we are all kings of our castles :-)

I run rotella 5w40 synthetic and off the shelf anti-freeze 50/50 mix. All reasonably priced and available at Walmart.

thanks to all for the replies.

interesting about the diesel oil.

Final question regarding coolant... the big thing is I need to ensure the coolant is silicate free, correct? Helps protect the aluminum engine?

Amsoil 10w40 cant be beat

Use the minimum amount of coolant for your climate, distilled water is a must!
