Power Windows??

Anyone know of a power window part availability? The latest defender models have power windows (overseas).

I just replaced my doors with the updated version that has allowance for door lock motors and power windows.

I've managed power door locks, but I'm not sure what's involved with a power window conversion.

any thoughts?

I would assume their are a bunch of bits you might need to add the windows. And maybe getting a whole door unit from equicar in the UK and painting it might be a good route.

Mike is right, I did see RN advertise door-window motors last christmas. Just never really was interested so I never looked into it.

Arrow Leccy Windows!!!!!

Finally found a leccy window kit!!

https://www.falcon4x4.com/acatalog/E...c_Windows.html

Thread on the UK board says the Genuine from late model Defenders will also work, and the setups are around the same cost, prolly a tweak more for the Gen once extra bits are lumped in.

I wonder if the Genuines roll up faster...hmmm.

I have both kits (windows/locks) - once the weather gets a bit better I'll install 'em! I'll let you guys know how it turns out once they're installed.

FYI: The Falcon kits are actually SPAL kits in case you were wondering. So if you want to shop around you might find some good deals w/o having to get it shipped from the UK (I did anyway). For the door locks, you could probably find somthing that works in JC Whitney...

Ahh interesting Will! So did you get the SPAL kit, not the Genuine?

My primary concern is how quickly the windows motors run.

Think I'll go for the door locks too.

Wicks,

Just shot off a email to a guy who lives I think in Altadena. He has a D90 a 101 Vampire Radio Truck and a couple of Pinzgauers. I recalled hi telling me last year he put electric windows in his 90. I hope to hear from him soon and will let all know what I found out.

Is that the guy with the Alligator skin coachwork in his 90?

Thanks - look forward to feedback...

Hmm, they would be a nice to have. But I'm with Phil. As modernized as I've tried to make the Rover. Electric windows might be my line in the sand. Their is something I enjoy about the simplicity of some things.

If I did do electric windows, I think I would update my dash with the newer pod where the switches properly rest in order to make it legitimate.

I would be happy with having roll down windows. I cant get my fat head out of the split windows.

Power windows and locks on a D-90?

I think a kit like that would be better on a Jeep.

Wicks, not sure how reliable the source is (since I can't remember where I heard this), but I recall hearing that *some* of the later '97 Station Wagons came from the factory with the correct wiring harness in place for the factory power windows & locks that were available on UK models in '98.
I specifically remember seeing a red '97 SW like mine advertised with power windows up for sale in Florida several years ago. I had an email exchange with the owner and he confirmed it, but thought it came that way since he wasn't the original owner.
Anyway, it's worth checking in to if you want to go that route.
Please keep us updated if you find any more information on this. I'd like to know I didn't just dream it up.

This is a pretty good tech thread just ripe for the FAQ.
Going to move it to the Tech section.

Oopps.. looks like a Merge as well thrown in to another Power window thread.

Will, if you remember, take a bunch of pictures and notes as you do. Would most likely be a good addition for the site.

Has anyone taken their doors off an SW for summer fun? What do you do with the rear view mirrors?

On the lower hinges you would remove them from the bulk head, but the upper one you would remove it from the door since the mirror is attached to the hinge, and then run a bungee cord across your dash to the other side and attache it the hinges. That's how I do it and seen few people doing it that way.

Hope this helps

HEY! Have you seen my avatar?????? I know it is a little muddy but it's right there!

Anyway, I used a piece of 1" by 1/4" aluminum flat bar about 2" long. I drilled a hole at one end and used a screw similar to the one that holds the door on and a few washers and a nut to clamp it in the closed position. Its hard to explain but when you take the door off leave the top hinge with the mirror on the truck and push it all the way in and you will see what I mean.
