Power Wash Soft Top?

Bad idea? Was toying with pulling it, giving it a good soak in simple green and powerwashing it.

Wasn't sure if this was a no-no.

Bad idea.

The pressure washer will leave uneven streak marks in the fabric and make it look wierd. A pressure washer can wash the dye out of some tops (do not ask). The simple green will also remove 100% of the waterproofing - so you will need to treat with CANVAC or other suitable treatment when you are done.

I have no idea what a real good way is to clean a top. Mine has mold spots all over the underside from condensation and I have never been able to get rid if it.

David, Im in the same boat. Some mold and just generally probably not cleaned in 20 years. Perhaps I should call a boat canvas person and ask them. If I find out anything useful I can obviously share...

So just thought I'd close the loop. Pulled the original MOD soft top which was brown. You literally couldn't touch the thing without it shedding dirt and dust.

Sprayed it down on the ground with hot water and put the OxiClean to her letting it soak for 15 min. Got out the course scrub brush and scrubbed her good and hit it with the gentle tip on the powerwasher. Muddy water for 1/2 hour!

Flipped it, repeated.

Flipped it again to rinse, and flipped one more time and had clean water running off it.

Who knew the top was not Brown!

Canvac being sprayed on both sides. Picked it up at Cabelas.

Ok

A few before and after a few rounds of OxiClean. Will post the final pics after Canvak. Curious if it will change the color at all. The OxiClean was told to me by a local boat canvas cushion maker/repair shop. He said use a lot of it and let it sit and work its magic!

I think the camera flash makes it look white buts its light tan. It didn't have bleach in it. Oh well, it's clean and soon to be waterproof again!

Here is a 1/2 way to Canvak'd and a finish but still wet shot.

Spraying it with a garden sprayer is a ridiculous idea. A stiff brush is what is needed and works the liquid in to the fibers. It does indeed change the color/darken the canvas but I don't care. I hit the top and all seams with two complete applications and the sides/rear flap with just a good solid coating.

It was about 75 degrees here today and Canvak reccomends 80 degrees or higher and to get the fabric as hot as possible so the fibers loosen. Placing the spread out canvas in my cul-de-sac for a few hours prior to application and sitting the gallon jug in hot water for 15 min worked like a charm.

I will post some dried/back on the 110 pics at some point.
