Power Steering Box Centerline

Replaced the drop arm last night and was following the book that said to set the centerline of the steering box, turn the wheel to right lock and then back off two turns.

I did this 3 times and all three times the wheel was sitting about 1:30, not 12.

My only thought is that at some point a PO did something and got the mark off.

Can I just unbolt the wheel, set it to center and adjust the tie-rods to get it all back to square or should the wheel be pointing like that?

Many thanks for the help.
Nick

You need to find the center of the box. Turn from lock to lock and count the turns exactly. Then find the middle position. Don't just use 2 turns and assume 4 turns lock to lock. Make sure the tie rod is not connected when doing this. If the steering wheel is off, then pull and reposition. Fine tuning is with the tie-rod after driving.
