Perentie imported

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Perentie

For what its worth I have gotten a ton of emails asking if I could get Perenties in over the past year.
Until this spring no one wanted to take me up on my insistence that if it is as built by the manufacturer, the answer is yes.

The concern has been that the Perentie trucks were built by JRA not Land Rover and have (stronger design) galvanized chassis and Isuzu diesel engines.

As many here know, DOT has US Customs on the lookout for any galvanized chassis and engine swapped trucks so this was an area of concern.

I'm happy to report that we have cleared a Perentie through the port of Newark for a forum member here in NJ. If he chooses to out himself and share rover porn that will be his decision.
It took US Customs a month to clear it, doubtless because they were waiting for EPA and DOT to figure out what it was, but that benchmark has been established.

Personally I think these are the ultimate enthusiast version of the 110 and 130's.

I know I want one of the 130 crew cab 6x6's

I would buy one if they came in LHD.

Glad the person used you so we have good precedent.

Built by Jaguar Landrover Australia so from Australia but I shipped this one from the UK. Part of the process was waiting for an export license for a military vehicle direct from service.
The guy on ebay UK is selling these for 10kgbp. Seems like a hell of a deal to me.
This outfit in OZ has some good info

What was nhtsa/DOT take on the frame? Is there actually a benchmark set on a perentie, because the vin of a perentie is just a normal CKD AUS 110 vin, which gives no indication to the special frame that was modified and dipped? Many phone calls have ended with unanswered questions about whether they consider these frames modified or not...........
But I'm glad to hear it cleared, I will try to get one from Aus in the fall.

Take ? Take is that it is 25yrs old and as built so eligible for the DOT exemption. The trucks are unique and were built in OZ to a military contract specification. I tried to get JRA to give me a letter of origin etc and they declined saying the trucks were custom built to a military contract and outside the normal ckd/civilian truck channel. Motor Heritage couldn't offer any info, which is who Customs goes to for info.

Did you get a ride in it or did you broker from afar? Interested in your opinion of the motor.

There's a local guy that has a Perentie. He brought it out to the meet and greet here in Pasadena the last two months. It's a really nice truck. He says the 4BD1 has no problem doing 70 on the freeway..

Johan me too : )

This one was from the UK and the UK individual export license takes 28 days. The Australian export license we are still working our way through.

Perfect, so long as it works, I will be happy! I do not care what the paperwork says, and very glad to hear the frame was not an issue, hopefully prices will stay reasonable.

There is one on Craigslist for sale in Vancouver if someone wanted to do a drive over.
http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/cto/5102876465.html

$16.5 US

The perenties have a manual difflock shift for the lt95. The ones I have seen/ owned all had the vacuum shift.

The outfit in OZ I linked above says the r380/lt230 combo holds up well the the 3.9 isuzu torque

The one in Canada on CL was posted here before, back in January.

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...fer-59414.html

He was asking 30K then, of course that could have been in Loonies. 21.5 CAD or 16.5K US is a hell of a deal for that truck that is already landed here in north america and is importable to the states..

Nice trucks, very nice. They'd even sway me back to the fold of LR from the mighty G wagen that I'm currently playing with (I still have my Td5 110!)

If any of you get the undealed4x4 email magazine (from Aus) then there was a small article on the Perentie4x4 last month.

I'll find the link, but I did laugh when they described the 4BD1 as "an engine you can mix paint on"

Makes me think back to the Bush Tucker Man TV series.... great stuff!!
