Painting or Powdercoating a Galvanized Chassis

I know lot's of folks like the look of the galvanized chassis, but I like the black. Are there any issues with painting or powdercoating a galvanized chassis?

I know you can powdercoat over zinc/galvanizing but you would have to ask a powdercoating shop how well it sticks. The local shop I have been using just did a jeep frame and it looked great.

I would paint mine if it's possible... I'd want to be able to touch it up easily when I scratch it.

I won't ever powder coat another part that can come into contact with the ground. It just chips or scratches and then water gets under it and starts to bubble and rust. For less money you could galvanize it. I painted mine.

I painted mine, and I totally regret it.
1) Even though I prepped it carefully, the paint doesnt adhere properly, and its coming off
2) The galv weathers and darkens so its not always bright zinc colored
3) I would still paint the rear crossmember, but now I wish I had the bling factor of the galv showing on the underside.

I personally like the painted look with the corrosion resistance of galvanizing as well. However, it is a pretty involved process to paint galvanized items correctly. I was looking into it for a boat trailer long ago. Here are some interesting links that might get you started though...

Didn't Randy galvanize both the bulkheads on his truck build-ups? Maybe he can shed some light on painting over galvanizing.
