Over $100 for a speedo cable? Comeon

Any suggestions other than ordering a OEM speedo cable? $160 online...no thanks. I'll use an iPhone app to track speed before I pay that much.

1994 D90 NAS. Thanks.

Ha! I know! I love that app! But your mileage will remain static too, so keep track if you ever plan to resell!

Just the speedo cable? The lower unit is $26!

If it's the little gear box too then I'm not sure if $160 is all that bad as I had my mechanic do it for around $300! Just didn't have time myself, but if you're handy, it's not hard.

Thanks man! I'll show this to my mechanic buddy to see if this is what I need.

If it's the upper cable then I've only found it on the RN site for $160.

http://www.roversnorth.com/ProductDe...e=0&eq=&key=it

If it's the transducer (the little box) then it $155.

Thanks Any. I don't think I need the housing. I think I simply need the steel line/cable that connects to the back side of the speedo.

Andy, I'll take whatever Stephen can't use out of that assembly please. That being the VSS and lower cable.

I thought that was just "what you do" in a Land Rover anyway.

I went two years without it. Never got pulled over, as my truck can't speed even down hill with a tailwind, but I always looked forward to the conversation with the officer; "do you know how fast you were going?........... Nope!" ;-)

"do you know how fast you were going?"

State Trooper: What the hell are you driving here?
Del: We had a small fire last night, but we caught it in the nick of time.
State Trooper: Do you have any idea how fast you were going?
Del: Funny enough, I was just talking to my friend about that. Our speedometer has melted and as a result it's very hard to see with any degree of accuracy exactly how fast we were going.
