Outer Rear Oil Seal Leaking

Hello,
was replacing the rear wheel bearings on my 1984 ROW defender and while fitting the outer oil seal on the left side the seal in the brit-part kit did not fit as it was slightly larger than the hub itself. The previous owner completely left out the seal (probably due to the same problem) and that caused gear oil to leak up into the drum and out onto the inside of the rim and tire leaving a little pool of gear oil when i park. The same kit fit perfectly on the right hub assembly as well as the inside side of the left hub assembly but not on the outside of the left hub.

I was wondering if anyone has ever run into this problem? Instead of not putting a seal in there I notched out a piece of an old seal and fit it but of course this is leaking.

If anyone has any ideas let me know

Thank You

Really strange. I've never seen that seal, and never noticed that Microcat actually lists it for 87-06 Defenders, 89-98 Discoveries and 86-94 RRC's.
I'm having a hard time visualizing why you'd even need it.
