oil light on 4.0 V8

so i have a strange one with my 4.0 V8. the oil light comes on above 1500 rpm and is off below it. i have looked through the forums and can only find details on the usual, light coming on at idle or all the time.

anyone got any ideas ? i checked the oil and it is at the full mark on the dipstick.

i am more of a diesel nut so dont often have a gas engine in one of my rovers. this engine will be coming out early next year for a diesel conversion but i would like it to last me till then atleast......

What about the alternator?
Take my advice with a grain of salt, as I know very little.
I've been trying to solve one of my electrical mysteries this weekend and read that the oil light activates when you turn the key. It turns off once the alternator starts outputing power = to the battery. I wonder if the oil light would come on if your alternator's output diminished at higher RPMS for some reason.
Something to check out perhaps.
Good luck,
Jeff

hi duncan, i had a similar fault on my 3.5, turned out the relief valve was sticking, i swapped out the cap type valve for a tadpole type relief valve and all was well.

now I fit uprated pr spring and tadpole valves as a mater of course when rebuilding.

could also be clogged strainer, crap oil, or oil presure switch.

Did you verify the strainer was bolted on tightly? I once removed my oil pan to find the strainer was loose!

ok folks.... for those interested....... after dropping the oil pan, cleaning everything out and still getting the same problem it turned out to be that the wrong oil filter had been fitted and it was restricting flow ! yes.... that simple. all good again with the 4.0 :O) thanks to don at rovertech in vancouver for his help and troubleshooting..........
