Oil filters

I thought I posted this a while back, but can't find it, so...

I've always trusted the Wix quality though lately I've been using Baldwin B2, which has the same construction as Wix 51515. At a cost of $4-$6 you'd be hard pressed to do better, IMO.

The reports I've read of dissected genuine aren't very impressive. The Cooper I opened, who supposedly make the genuine, wasn't impressive at all. Both have the bypass in the dome end.

Napa Gold 1452, it holds about a quart of oil and is made by Wix

Interesting. The only difference between the 1452 and the 51515 that I see is a higher burst pressure on the 1452. 415psi vs 290psi.

I think the 1452 lists as a hydraulic fluid filter in the NAPA book. I recently ordered a batch of WIX filters from Rockauto, they listed it as a 51452 IIRC. I dont get my NAPA filter discount anymore. Hard to beat RockAuto on consumables

Yeah, NAPA drops the leading digit.
Wix lists it as a lube/transmission. I'm going to call them this week to see if there's any difference other than burst psi.
I get the 51515's locally for about $4.50 so not really worth buying a bunch at a time. I did buy 10 or 12 Baldwin B2's when I was able to get them for $3.50 each with free shipping.
