Smile Official 4.6L Engine Swap Thread

With all the questions about swapping a 3.9L/4.0L to a 4.6L, I thought it would be useful to have a thread dedicated to the subject. (is this "sticky" worthy JimC?)

So here are my questions/topics to get the ball roll'n:

Ahem:

1) those who swapped to a 4.6L, did you go with a new block or used?

2) ECU differences

3) Radiator/cooling requirements

4) Heads, are there differences b/w 3.9L/4.0L and 4.6L

Cheers...

Do a search for all your favorite 4.6 threads here and I'll consolidate them into a "greatest hits" or a merged threadfest if that seems appropriate.

I've got a sweet set of 4.6 heads with rpi oversized valves that are all set to hook up to a 3.9 block. Let me know.

I put in a 4.6 short block into my D90 and used my original good 4.0 heads with 4.6 camshaft. My question is, will a GEMS 4.6 ECU from a 4.6 GEMS Range Rover P38 easily swap into my D90 ECU plugin? I would rather stay with a Rover solution than rechipping with a $1000 Mark Adams chip. (In essence I don't trust 'unlocked' Iphones either). Anybody out there who can give me some intelligence on this?

are 4.6 heads any different than 4.0 heads?

I think there are some issues with the p38 ecu and the transmission maybe even alarm. The heads are the same.
