OEM gaskets are very expensive

LR Direct has aftermarket differential gaskets for $.50. The OEM is $35.00. I'm going to buy the aftermarket seeing as how I could change it every week and still be ahead financially.

But my question is why is it so much? If anyone buys the OEM gasket, can I ask why?

For some parts I go OEM because I know they'll be built right. Like for a water pump or something, I want it to last. But I don't think I'd go there for gaskets.

So confused here.. what kind of gasket are you talking about? We have the genuine one for $4.95, differential to axle housing.
