No such thing as a stupid exhaust question.

Well I am going to put that to the test. Which direction do these guys face? One side has edges (as seen in the pic) the other side is flat. Flat side toward the exhaust manifold? or vice-versa?

I guessed myself and put the flat side down. It looked as if there was a bit of residual shadowing from the top side ridges on the header mating surface, so I just tried to mimic what was there. I'm really not sure that it mattered either way, but it worked nicely!

I'd like to know for certain as well, so hopefully a real builder will chime in.

As long as it isn't leaking I am taking that advice. Unless of course someone chimes in with a definitive answer.

That's a definitive answer from a qualified source.

Dammit! ;-) I knew it! Mine are backwards I guess. Always the case.

I should just try overthinking the snot out of something and then do the opposite of what I've concluded! Lol

I've done it both ways; never could tell a difference i.e. no leaks.

BUT, I just did this last night as I was installing a y-pipe.
I put the gaskets flat side up towards the manifolds AND I lightly held them there with some of that blue painters tape while I got all the nuts loosely installed(apply liberal amounts of silver grease!)
Then I wiggled the tape free, tightened all the bolts up.
Gaskets didnt fall off or move around!
