No Spark ignition amplifier?

Does anyone know how to test the ignition amplifier or distributor? The defender stalled at a light, I didn't even noticed it shut down, and I haven't been able to restart it since.

It is not getting a spark to the plugs. Spark is coming from the coil but it ends there. Cap/rotor (genuine) and plugs/wires were all replaced in the last 12 months.

This happened to me - after pulling everything apart, I finally noticed that the spring loaded node from the cap that connects to the rotor was gone....

Worth a quick look.

If you are referring to the recently minted (& re-branded) "Lucas" rotors, then that could possibly be your problem. Some techs consider them complete junk, & if they are correct, then having nigh to 12 months on one can be even more of an issue.

Otherwise, it's really way above my pay grade, but I believe I recall reading somewhere that distributor testing is...ugh, I'm really feeling queasy about posting this...perfomed by spark testing the negative terminal of the coil? And by pulling off the cap & observing as to whether the rotor is turning when you hit the starter?

Oh well, if I'm completely wrong, hopefully someone knowledgeable will jump in & correct me...

I swear having extra rotor and cap on hand is smart. My own no start scenario was frustrating as all heck.
Then one day I put on a new cap and bingo, purring like a Rover V8 should.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I've replaced the cap/rotor and coil with known good units and zilch. Also checked to make sure the rotor is turning while cranking the engine and it appears to be fine.

Will replace the wire and see if that makes a difference. Will report back but this does have me baffled.

If you got spark making it to the cap then you only have to test the cap, rotor, pick-up, and amplifier.
