No communication to ECU

Defender 90 1997 S.W.
I have no communication to ECU (under the hood) when the ABS ECU (under the seat) is connected. When I disconnect the ABS ECU it restores communication back to the OBDII plug.

The following is what I have done with no luck yet.

- New ECU installed (under the hood) and reprogrammed and checked out from dealer.
- New ABS ECU installed (the one under the seat)
- Disconnected all ABS (rough road) sensors from ecu to see if that would restore communication.
- Checked continuity of all wiring going from ECU to diagnostic plug and back to ABS ECU.
- Checked all fuses
- Checked grounds
- Checked 12 volt leads

I thought I would have found the problem by now, Iím running out of ideas!!!!

Do you have an aftermarket radio installed?

Yes but I didn't use any of the amp wiring that was down there. I did recently install a flat screen on the dash with the mud uk kit. Do you think something got crossed?

I am not sure if it is the same issue you are having, but ECR had a post on a similar issue caused by a stereo install a while back. Search for that post.

Awesome I will search for it! You just pointed me in the right direction. I went out and disconnected the stereo from the power plug under the center cubby console and sure enough it restored communication! I just have to figure out what the heck happened. Thank you very much!!!!
I just wish I swallowed my pride and asked you first.......another lesson learned.
Thanks again,
Ryan

No problem.

Ask D-90.com should be the first step in any repair procedure. You probably spent untold 100s if not 1000s for what is a simple fix. ECR explained what wires get crossed in his post.
