Newbie, ?'s about rust

Hello, I am sort of new to Defenders and I have some questions about rust. I live in MN, lots of salt on the roads here. I have read many places that the body of a Defender is made of aluminum. As far as I have ever known, aluminum does not rust. I test drove a defender a while ago and it had rust on the body. It seemed as if water would collect on top of the tailgate and that was very rusted, along with other areas.

What I am hoping to find out is what parts a prone to rust and what are not.

I do know that the frame is steel and many people galz. or waxoyl.

How about doors, body, bulkhead, etc.

PS I know this may seem like and obvious question, but I keep finding inconsistent info.

Bulkhead/Door Bottoms/rear crossmember

Follow-up Post:

If you find one with rust only on the rear crossmember they can be replaced.....the doors can be as well obviously.

Brian, Things like the frames of the doors are steel so you'll see those rusting as well as the aluminum skin oxidizing where it touches said steel parts. Richard pointed out the big spots, but check the floor boards, doorway sills etc. as well.
