New to me Defender 110

I've just purchased a 110 in the UK, it痴 a 1985 2.5NA diesel.

The vehicle is at my Father's house, I知 wondering if there are any mods/accessories I should buy before I ship it to the US? My Dad just retired.....so he has time to "help" me out. I was thinking of a roof rack and may be wheels?

I'm very new to the Defender world so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx, Stu

Congrats, Stu. Roof rack a good idea, they are hard to ship later on without becoming damaged, and selection and prices are better in the UK. Anything bulky or heavy basically. Wheels also, therefore, if you want to change them.

If it is coming by container, try to fill the container. Others here will chime in with requests and you may be able to share the shipping cost a bit. For example, you may want to upgrade the doors and it would be cheaper to source new doors in the UK and put into the container.

I would assess the condition of your seats as well. The roof rack is a good idea if that is something you want. I would go so far as to say you should look at the condition of your doors as well, and go ahead and replace them with new take offs (NTOs) or at least push buttons if that is something you want.

I would source anything I could for the truck as in spares while it is there. The parts there are a lot cheaper.

Stu you need to talk with uncle Douglas who is on this board to find out what you can get away with when shipping it back here.

X3 on Doug. There are Ro-Ro ferries which make things like Roof racks easy to handle. Though I'd go with a sankey instead.
But spares loose in a truck would be easy pickings.

Thanks all,

I知 using Doug to import the vehicle. Since I知 not really sure of the price differences between the UK/ US for Land Rover items (I assume some parts are cheaper over there), I have been wondering what items I should buy. Since I値l be shipping using roll on roll off everything needs to be attached to the car.

The doors on the vehicle are in pretty bad shape, I like the idea of getting new doors.

BTW, my plan for the vehicle is to do a full restoration.

Cheers, Stu

Then MAKE SURE you source new middle or second row doors - frames and skins over here are basically ridiculously expensive or unobtanium!!!

Anything big, especially seats. You can get cheap used seats on ebay in the UK. I was also looking into a heated windshield for my 110 which are much easier to come by in the UK. If you want to replace dash parts they're also big (lower dash) and cheaper over there I've found.
