New guy with D90 shopping questions

greetings gents, In the past I have owned a Series III, Range Rover and a Disco and I am now finally shopping for what I've wanted in the first place, a D90.

My budget is limiting me to mostly 1994's. Just wondering if there are any reasons NOT to buy a '94 over the other years? I really don't care for the square rear lights, but can live with them. But mechanically, I assume there is little difference to the later trucks?
I would prefer a stripped model to keep it simple with a 5 speed.

Also, is the A/C really worth it? Can it easily be added to a truck if I find one without and feel I need it?

Thanks guys
Pete

94s really aren't any cheaper than 95s. It comes down to the truck.

If you go for a 94 make sure the tranny is decent. By now most have R380s which is good.

As for AC it is subjective and depends on your location. It can easily be added later.

I'm on my second 94 NAS D90 and I love it. It's easy to change the square lights on a 94, there are kits for that and you can resell the square lights and the box that holds them in the parts section of the Forum.

From what I have seen, A/C is expensive to add. In NJ it would be nice to have in the summer, but useless if you put a bimini top.

In nj you will fry like it is hell without a/c...IMO.(I love air conditioning though, more important then the light bulb if you ask me) I used it even with my bikini top on my old ST. Unless you won't drive in traffic and will only use the truck on weekends for wheeling.

Find one with it or expect to spend 2k at least to put it in.

You are making the right decision. I was tempted by cheaper Discos and even Wranglers, but the Defender 90 is something you'll never get out of your system until you buy it. There's really nothing else like it.

Just and update, that I have found and purchased a nice '95 D90 SW. Went down to Georgia 2 weeks ago and trailered it home.
Love it and enjoying this forum.

Thanks, found it on Auto Trader. I was scouring Ebay, Auto Trader and Cars.com
There's a nice red D90 in Texas right now, with a hardtop.
