New Engine Question

Looking for opinions...
So, I want to consider power plant options for my 97 D90 SW (auto) and or 95 D90 ST (manual). Something that wont require transmission or drive train upgrades...anyone have any thoughts or practical experiance with this?

Also? I have seen many threads on alternator upgrades for the D90 but I cant get a good feel for what works best! I have a dual battery system and I am just looking for a higher out for increased need on the alternator. Thanks- in advance!!

Just opinion of course but my two cents: Keep the 4.0 in the 97 and save the expense of the 4.6 engine and transmission swap. Put a 4.2 in the 95 and have fun.

You can run a 95-98 Range Rover 4.0 or 4.6 alternator in the 97, it is 120 or 130 amp output compared to the 90 amp stock D90 unit. In your 95 you can run a factory GM alternator with higher output or even an aftermarket, but will require modification to the mounting bracket, etc.

I have a Range Rover 4.2 in mine and it has been great so far!

Stock alternator is fine for two batteries. As far as engine upgrades, just save money for 4.6s anything beyond or much beyond that would require a new trans, espeically in the 95.

I love the power on my '97 GEMS 4.6L. If you have the time and money I recommend it.

are our engines described as long blocks? If so British Atlantic is selling new ones for $7500.00!! I'm sure there is more to is as it is more than just a plain engine (water pump...etc.) but that price is heavy duty...

yeah it works just fine...you know how it is if I can get more power without major modification...why not. You never know when (or why) youre going to need it!!
