For those of you who have bought new doors with galvanized frames, where did you buy them? Is there a vendor who sells them unpainted or primed and ready for paint? Do you have recommendations for a vendor that sells new complete doors?

I found a vendor in the UK (http://www.landefender4x4parts.co.uk/) but they supply them powder coated. Why would they do that? Can you paint over powder coat? Since I plan to paint them it would be nice to skip the paint removal step if possible.

Oh. Ok.

If I want to get the newer style with galvanized frames what should I look for? TD5 doors or newer? Part#?

If you prefer to go for a UK based source, I would talk to keithgott or equicar. Keithgott has NTO front doors listed at a reasonable price, IF you can figure out reasonable shipping. Wasn't there a guy in Seattle or Portland looking to fill a container?

Safari hp listed a special on TD5 NTO doors. I bought a set. They are much better than the skin over frame older door style.

Are the new ones not "skin over frame"?

I saw Stephens special. Keith Gott has the same pair for $1100 plus shipping. I would prefer unpainted as hopefully they would be a little cheaper and I wouldn't have to spend $200 - $300 on stripping them.

NTO is usually cheaper than new, but will be painted. New will usually be in some sort of primer.

No need to strip the factory paint, the new factory paint is a great base to start with just need to prep them and paint

Sorry to say that we are out of the cheap door sets. I still have some of the bare doors left.

Steven, are you planning to get more in?

So new take-off TD5 doors is the way to go then? I haven't seen much available on eBay.

I'm not painting over old paint & clear coat. Last owner did and it's peeling everywhere. Going to chemically strip and isolate steel from Alu then prime and paint. My all time pet peeve is when people don't do shit properly.

How about aluminum skin versus steel skin? Pros/cons?

If you get the new steel skinned ones you don't have to deal with the isolation issue and they wont dent when you look at them sideways. Everything I have heard says the new doors are the way to go. Aren't they completely galvanized, frames and skins?

Call Tim Golden @ RMR 4x4 in Colorado. He has 6-8 pairs of 2011 new take off doors in his warehouse in Alabama. IMO take off's are preferable to new shells because they are complete doors. If you have ever had to build a defender roll up window door from parts you will full appreciate what a huge difference that is.

All roll up window doors are skins over frames. The new style doors (08 and up) are steel skins and the frames are pressed not cut and welded. The new doors are also galvanized.

Anyone know if Tim's still kicking? His voicemail is filled, and I've not caught him on the phone for the past three weeks. I'd like to buy a set of doors as well; great thread.
