Unhappy Need replacement locking gas cap

Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but this was bound to happen to me - I forgot to put the gas cap back on after filling up one time. So, there's a D90 gas cap out there somewhere at some gas station.

Anyway, I need to get a replacement. Does anyone know what brand the original was? I just did a search on google, and there's a bunch of different brands.

I'd like to replace it with the original if possible. It's for a 1997 D90. Any help is appreciated. Please email me directly.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Get a cap from a Disco. They have a tether that will prevent it from happening in the future.

John at EE should be able to get you one for it.

Are you going to the PIPELINE TRIP with the CLRC this April?

Hey be careful the locking gas caps can let water in when wading.

I found that the one from my old '85 Dodge Ramcharger was an exact fit... Go figure. I got my last one at a Pep Boys or similar auto parts store. Just ask for one to fit the Dodge if they don't list the Rover, and it should be fine.

I just want to echo Hippert's statement. Your going to have problems with a locking gas cap if you wade. Even if you don't think you go that deep. You would be surprised as to how easy it is to dip that rear quarter panel under when exiting water holes, as I've found out.

Of course this is provided you extended your gas tank breather tube. If you didn't, then the cap is obviously the least of your worries...

Gas Cap

yeah i am pretty sure it was a stant that came on them....Anyways fuck the dealership, They always have to get there 200% markup price....I always check advance or auto zone before going to the dealer....17 Bucks is nothing compared to the dealership....

I bought mine at Rover Connection - Genuine and $32.

Thought that having a locking cap would keep me from leaving it at the pump / sitting on the tail lamp protector cage, But Nooooooooo. The cap took a long ride (on the lamp cage) to the top of Mosquito Pass last summer from Denver.

OK, to help keep from leaving mine behind I wedge the cap in the handle of the pump, sometimes I use it to hold the pump handle while I wash the windows. So far I have not lost the cap this way.

I just went to lowes and bought about 8 inches of really small galvanized chain and some sef-tapping scrwes. Screw one end of the chain into the sheetmetal near the filler, and screw the other end of the chain into the gas cap, in the handle. No more lost gas caps. The chain will pile up in the area with the filler nicely, so it doesn't beat the crap out of the side of the truck. I think it cost me less than $1 to do this. I do keep a spare under the pass. seat just in case something should happen to the chain.
