my 2.8 TGV drama

So my engine has been fully dissambled and I have a cylinder out of round due to a disintegrated #3 bearing. I am trying to source the correct cylinder liner to repair it and get my project back on track. Does anybody have any idea who/what/where the liner can be sourced? MWM is no help here.

If it is not a bored out 300TDI liner, I would guess you are SOL. Have you tried M&D Engineering?

Try calling Turner Engineering in the UK. They might be able to help. Just checked their website and they do 2.8 type performance cyl heads for about 500 GBP. Not bad. They sell liners but I don't see 2.8 type listed. But they at least might be able to source one for you.

I remember back when I was looking at these motors, there was some dealer down in Brazil that stocked a bunch of parts for them. I can't remember the details but it might be worth searching for.

Man, what a bummer.

Couldn't you use a universal liner (Melling etc) and have it finish-bored to the correct original dimension?

http://lrch.nl/sites/default/files/I...0Catalogue.pdf

and workshop manual
http://landrover.narod.ru/DEFENDER/T...hop_Manual.pdf

i didn't see liners listed in the parts list - only the piston Ring kits.
from page 69 of the workshop manual
PISTONS AND CONNECTING

Very common repair for diesels. Find a good machine shop that is familiar with heavy duty equipment. I have had all kinds of blocks fixed that way. Easy peasy repair for a competent automotive machinist.

Jim Pendleton has worked on these engines as well. He rebuilt mine after it completely self destructed after 11k miles.
It made me regret converting from V8 to diesel.

Mark,

Very sorry to hear about the troubles.

It might not help at this point, but I have ordered 2.8 parts from International in Brazil and had very good service, however it was a while ago. I went to the International Brazil site and contacted them, then was put in touch with a very nice group that helped me get the parts needed. That being said, I do not recall cylinder liners, but that does not mean they do not have them.

Personally, the Melling idea seems appealing in terms of time and cost . . .

Thanks. Plan A was to go with the oversized pistons, but M&D wants $500+ for each one, and you have to do all 4. Ridiculous.

A friend had custom pistons made at some place int the States. IIRC, it was a lot less than that and they claim they can do anything. You just send them a current piston and tell them the size you want.

I think it was at Wiseco, Wiseco Manufactures High Performance Forged Pistons & Performance Parts for Motorcycles, ATVs, Snowmobiles, Marine, and Automobiles

Can you get oversized pistons directly through International?

My first thought would be to get an aftermarket liner machined to the size you need. I'm sure an engine builder could at least point you in the right direction if you aren't sure where to get them.

Thanks. Not only have I found some part leads that speak english in Brazil, but looks like johan on this forum has come through for me with reasonably priced oversized pistons. looking good for me!

I also found through a friend in guatemala an aftermarket supplier for sleeves, but oversized pistons is plan A at this point. Thanks everyone!

I'm getting a set of 4 correct oversized 2.8 genuine pistons from member johan (2.8 parts supplier) for $200+ shipping. I didn't price pistons, but probably get around same pricing from Calpen in Brazil.

My M&D ankle chain has been cut. I feel like Django Unchained.
