multiple batteries issue..

I'm going with a dual battery system to keep my winch happy... I currently have a Warn multiple battery isolator, but wanted something a little more robust with a few more options... I've seen some units (dualmate) that can combine the batteries to assist starting to manually disconnect the two batteries, and a bunch more options...

Can anyone recommend a setup that works well.?

Also, I wanted to go with Optima batteries (one red for start, one yellow for winch, lights, etc..)... any suggestions for what size to use that both can fit in the battery box? I am running a Warn 9.5ti.

Thanks!

Don

I have the Wrangler Northwest system in my SW and in my YukonXL. I have the red for starting and the yellow for the accessories/winch. It will allow you to charge both batteries at the same time, use them both for starting or turn off the second battery. They have a dual battery holder that is excellent too.

I've got the painless wiring dual batter set up. It uses a three position switch. One is both batteries connected and charging, spare batter disconnected, and both batteries connected with the second battery not being charged.Works pretty well. I currently isolate the second battery when the rover sits for longer than a week since I have a drain somewhere in the truck.

I also have the painless, like Tyler...if I leave the truck not on a battery tender for a few weeks the truck is dead (think its the Sirius radio).
I flip a switch and it starts right up. By the time I'm at my destination the battery has charged.
Very nice to have, vs lifting the seat out and jumping.

Not that great for the life of the battery you keep draining though...

Recently fitted a National Luna system to Trey Ruewer's D90 with 2 yellows in custom underfender mounts. The original battery box now contains amplifier, crossovers, the National Luna controller, circuit breakers, fuses and a subwoofer.

I thing the Hellroaring isolator is the nicest.

I cheaped out and did a little different wiring with a normal isolator to get it to work well. http://members.shaw.ca/red90/isolator.html It has been working fine.

I have National Luna setup with dual Odyssey and could not be happier.

See my build thread for pics.

x2 for the painless. Works great for day to day stuff and when off roading. Everything fit nicely in my box with no mods.
