Muffler/Tailpipe riding shotgun with me!!

So I pulled into the local muffler shop with the aft section of the exhaust system riding shotgun. The system on there currently is obviously aftermarket as it has newer y pipes and dual cats. The muffler looks like it was missing a middle hanger and it developed a crack just behind the muffler. The muffler king suggested I put on a "turbo" muffler which would run quieter with the dual cats and also be tucked up higher than the previous setup. Got out the door for $210 but I've noticed that at exactly 2000 RPMs the noise jumps up considerably like someone flicked on a switch. The shop will work with me to swap it out if it doesn't quiet down over the next couple of days but I wanted to get some input from the gallery.

Recommendations on a muffler setup with my existing front exhaust that runs quiet and doesn't adversely affect MPG??? I'm currently getting 17.6 mpg in a 95 SW stock and value that over increased HP.

Adam,
I had the same thing happen to me (the rear hanger broke and I ended up with the pipe in the coils and sawzalled it out). I cut off the tailpipe and I've been running it like that since. I'm a little worried about heat under the truck, but so far so good (knock on wood).

Anyone else got some advice (am I killing my truck?)?
Thanks!

Adam, I have a FlowMaster muffler with about 10K miles on it and in perfect condition. I switiched it out b/c i wanted something with more umph so i went with their 50 series. This Flowmaster is their SUV model which sounds like a stock LR muffler.

You can have it for $40 plus shipping to Golden. I'm in VA and it's boxed and ready to go.

Do you have the regular 50 series or the Delta flow? How much louder do you think the 50 is than stock??

17.6 mpg?!? What's your secret? I consider myself lucky to get 14.

I tired the flow master in the 90 and it loud!! But I tried it when the alu-hard top on with no sound proofing and no interior panels and it would resnoate to the point of hurting my ears. So I went with the generic stock (not LR) and I have been happy with it. It still sounds good but I don;t like loud exaust.

Mpg

Ignorance is my secret. No clue.

90 has averaged in the 17s since I got her several months ago. 95 SW that apparently has a Disco chip installed and an electric fan but nothing else. I live in CO and drive a lot on long stretches in 5th and am pretty content to greenlane around town. Must be the lessons of my Series ownership.

She leaks plenty of fluid daily so that might be reducing the coefficient of friction while driving! :-)
