mud vs td5 console?

Hi Guy's
I am thinking of installing a new centre console. I did a Mud in the past and it was easy and looked very cool. Now i am planning to install a new one in my other defender, and i was thinking of the td5. Is the td5 as easy like the Mud? or more difficult? I probably also need to trim the lower dash?

Any help is welcome!

If the rest of your dash is good, then the MUD would be much easier/cheaper than replacing the entire dash with td5 dash.

I owned a D90 for 8 years and always wanted the Td5 dash. I sold the D90 and bought an old 110 that already had a Td5 dash. I like the upgrade but if I were to put a dollar amount in it I'd say it is a nice $500 upgrade. To do the complete Td5 dash mod will be much more expensive. If the rest of your truck is complete and you are not too concerned with the cost, go for it. But if there are other things you want to do with your D then do them first and come back to this decision. That is how I will approach purchasing my next defender.

Feel free to pm me I could go on further.

Josh

Thanks guy's

That i was i thought! My 110 is in pristine condition and i even feel bad cutting the dash to install a mud console, but i need some space for my switches. I like the td5 dash a lot to but if it means ripping the entire dash out of my car i think it will be a waste. So i might go for the Mud, but i will sleep over it for a couple nights.

You have more flexibility on how you can mount things and a wider variety of switch choices if you go with the Mud console. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to fit everything in my TD5 dash and I am limited to the stock switches.

I had the same problem before. I mounted the Mud and it look very cool. But now i have a new one and the td5 looks very clean to. I am still leaning to the Td5. Just asked my friend how much the parts would be. There are lots of td5 part in Europe so i think i can get some cheap.

You might also want to consider the Raptor consoles; I was using them in projects and was so impressed I imported a full stock for resale and became the North American distributor. Set the costs very reasonable to startl photos up on http://www.offroad101.ca/ and I ship into the US every week or two.

Is your head unit an actual double din head unit (Kenwood, Pioneer , etc.) with GPS receiver and amp behind the screen in the MUD unit or a flat 7" monitor mounted to the face or the MUD unit and a computer mounted else where to run it?

Iron Goat in Chilawack, B.C makes a nice center dash. I did the conversion to on mine and it turned out quite nice. I think it is a bit different layout than the mud UlK. Sturdy as heck too!

I was working with Iron Goat on the Double din modification but they thought that if they bumped out the front 3/4 " it would work (fitting the entire unit into the dash) but it would most likely interfere with the shift lever (knuckle bashing) unless owners were to bend back the shift levers. the only other alternative is to change the plastic air vent plate that covers the dash vents to one that is concave and adds extra space .

It is a double din stereo with a built in amp. The Kenwood navigation reciever was put behind the gauges.

Let us know if you find a source. Since some of the lhd td5 dash parts aren't currently available the costs have sky rocketed. Last quote I got was over $4000 for a complete td5 dash setup.

How long ago? I spoke with him a couple of weeks ago and dash and lhd heater was over 4k. Last couple of lhd dashes and heater combo's I bought from him were $1800.

I have a complete lhd td5 dash that I have been saving for the 130, looking for one for a project truck.
