motor swap help

hey guys a good friend of mine has a rrc 4.2 thats toast and i have a running 3.9 . could we just put the 3.9 core in place of the 4.2? 4.2l engines are just to much money to rebuild.

so i guess the main questions are:
1 would the long block fit under and run with the 4.2 intake and electrinocs?
2 would using his harness and my 3.9 ecu work?

i would love to gift him this engine he has a new family member on the way and can afford to rebuild that 4.2.

IIRC, the blocks are identical, just a different crank and rods inside it. Should bolt in no problem.
Heck, you may not even have to swap the ECU at all, a lot of guys run the 3.9's with 4.2 ECU's.
The 14CUX is surprisingly good at how well it adapts.
