What kind of pump where you using when that happened? Most pumps can run both ways...

So you need to make sure the ratio (i.e. output of the pump / size of the drum / ....) matches, right? It can't be that hard.

BTW, you'd probably try to have the wheels turn slightly faster than the winch drum so that you would see when you regained traction, right?

Get an electric, plug it in and pull. Even with the engine stalled.
