I'd say try Rob Davis down in VA beach. He's got a lot of experience with both.

There are many MB diesel variants, don't know which one you are thinking about. The Isuzu 2.8 is a great light weight diesel, more desirable than a 200/300 tdi IMO. However, if you are thinking about a diesel conversion, why not go for an engine with some muscle, economy and reliability? The 4BD1T, with a 5 spd MSA gear box coupled to an LT230 would be the cats meow.

I have just finished up a 5cyl. MB conversion and am very impressed with its power around town. its the OM617 turbo version. very easy fit except the front mount oil pan which needs modding to make work.

Sorry I can't be more help on the 2.8 unit but I plan to do another MB conversion in the future.

Cheers Ed

I've read about the 4bd engine somewhere and they said it was like driving a worked v8.. That would be the tits... Looking at doing a few things to the old girl when I get to England as there are a bunch more kits available over there as well as engine availability...I know how it goes though.. Since I am doing the engine I should do the trans..since I am doing that I should do better doffs...and add lockers.. It's probably better to lift the body and place it back onto a assembled chassis engine tranny doffs setup.... While I have the body off I should replace those rusty panels..while I'm doing that.....blah blah blah..next thing you know it's a 6 month megabuck pseudo resto...

AULRO is q great resource, like d-90 on roids. They have a section dedicated to Isuzu powered (factory fitted and convsion) rovers. It is the best resource for all things Isuzu-Rover.

The 4BD NA is not worth the conversion, unless you plan on turboing it. The 4BD1T is an excellent engine with both factory fit clutch and transmission options ($$) and grubs conversion kit ($). IMO, light years better than a rover v8, for everything that matter to me. The 4BD2T has had head probs. Wait until you're in AUS (or do it here) and go for it, you'll love it.
