Manual transmission whining

I just purchased a '95' with manual trans., the unit shifts smoothly but it seems to whine a lot and bucks a little when driving in 2nd and 3rd when you let off the acceleator. What is up? Is this common to the D90 or does it sound like a possible problem?

I'm new to the Defender but not to Rovers. I have enjoyed the site so far.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

That's just the stock whirlymajig where it mates to the flux capacitor. Don't worry, there's a warning light that comes on if it needs replacing.

No really, I've noticed (as have a lot of others) slop in the drivetrain. The whining would worry me some, but if you turn up the radio (if the speakers still work) that'll go away.

Thanks for the link to the thread. Seems like this is a common issue with the 5 speed manual transmission.

Talking Get the whining checked out

Shawom,

Get the whining checked out, I purchased my d-90 about 3 years ago (95 as well), & it had a similar whine / noise, come to find out the T-case needed to be replaced. The whine was defiantly present around 2 or 3 gear during 40 to 50 m-p-h. When you take it in have them check the speed"o" - meters transducer as well, after getting the T-case replace this transducer made the truck stall (bad tooth on gear) & gave a similar whine.

Just trying to help out?
Thanks
Weldon
