Mantec`

Ok, I hijacked a thread I posted in the 'misc-chit-chat' section but I thought it would be easier to just ask here....

Where is the best place in the US that I can purchase a
MANTEC SPARE WHEEL CARRIER for a 95 D90 SW for the BEST price ?

Simple enough.
Please help if anyone knows... it will save me a lot of time.
I've already spent too much time on it.

I believe I paid somewhere in the region of $450 from Rover Accessories. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone else with them in stock.

Nicholas,
I purchased my 110 Mantec Rear Carrier (I think it is same for the 90) for a company on the east coast, New Jersey I think....
Let me check my records and I will post again. The price and availability was good. Cheers! COSteve

THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU!!

David & Steve,

Thanks for the input... I was having a hard time tracking that sucker down without having to go directly to mantec.co.uk and do it the 'overseas' way.

I called British Pacific and they said that they no longer carry the Mantec and they have another 'aftermarket' brand, the guy who answered didn't know which one, nor did he have a picture for me but he did say that he would try and get it on their website within the next couple of days. Nice guy, but it was like pulling teeth getting any information from him ... didn't seem like he wanted my money. go figure.

I checked RoverAccessories website and I didn't see it under the 'Mantec' section... perhaps I'll give them a call.
And Steve, if you find that NJ Distributor, (my homeland) please post.

Oh, and when I emailed sales@mantec.co.uk for a price, they said 167 pounds PLUS VAT... (VAT is their export tax correct ?) , but they didn't give me a shipping cost. Still waiting to hear back from them.

Thanks again,

Nicholas Orros

I too bought mine from a company in NJ. It's called Stable Energies (http://stable-energies.com/home.asp). They purchase through Saftey Devices UK so you'll have to provide Stable Energies with this part number: (RBL1680SWC [B]) to purchase the Mantec tire Carrier. I think mine ended up pricing out at $350 including shipping to my front door. The price has more than likely increased due to the exchange rate. Good Luck.

Nicholas, if its not to much to ask... I need a copy of the "documentation" that came with. Could you burn me a copy of yours when you get it? or DJ if you still have yours...
Cheers! COSteve

EXCELLENT!

DJ... I'm going to call them now... hey, I really appreciate it.

Steve... When I get it I'll burn it and send it or create an FTP site for you to grab... either way, no problem.

Nicholas, the VAT does not apply to you. It will cost you around U$S350 or more if you use UPS or Fedex.

Steven

I take it you're referring to the installation documents? Or are you interested in the shipping forms? If the latter, ask CVC as I scanned the Mantec installation instructions and sent them to him to post on the Source. He's really busy so if he can't get them to you this afternoon I can send them to you this evening as they're at home on my cpu. Let me know.

Oh, and no problem Nicholas. I guarantee you'll not only be happy with their service, but with the carrier as well. Best modification for a SW in my opinion.

Done.

Just purchased, yes the price did go up a bit... $400 + $35 (3day UPS) shipping to my door, guaranteed by Friday.
(I have to have something to do this weekend!! haha)

DJ, I believe I'll have great service from them, I called them around 4pm and they said they'll make sure it goes out today. The girl who called me back, Laurette, was very nice & helpful.

Steven, If you don't get what you're looking for by Friday (when I get my order), just private message/email me and I'll get it to you ASAP.

John, Thanks for the info on the VAT ... I had to have it by Friday ... sometimes I get like this ... this truck brings it out of me in a big way, so I had to order it in the US!

Thanks

Steven, plz shoot me an email to chrisvonc@d-90.com with what you are looking for and I will try to find it when I get home in about 90 minutes. I do have to update some vendor specials before I dive back into other site backend stuff. If you dont I most likely will not even remember by the time I hit the car to go home.

Smile installed & sunk...

Well, finally got the Mantec carrier installed last night around 10pm...
Then, went out for a run this morning and got 'er stuck... was almost there...

In any case, nice unit, very sturdy, and it's nice not having the wheel vibrate
whatsoever at any speed.

Thanks guys.

What holes did you have to drill? Body and rear cross?

Looks good Nicholas! It's nice not to here all that rattling in the back isn't it!

Wicks, you drill two holes into the tub and three into the cross memeber & if I remember correctly none on the door? I think you just use the old holes where the LR tire carrier was to fasten the Mantec backing plate.

yep...2 in the tub, 3 in the crossmember...
I had to drill a few in the actual door... It's cake
though, all you do is take the old plate off the door,
align the new one... It will fit in at least 2 existing
holes, then drill a couple more.

I had to go to the local hardware store and pick up
some 10mm bolts because the 'kit' was lacking a few
for the outer plate that goes on the door. Cost an
extra $7. I wanted to make sure that sucker was
on there because when I tool the old on off there
was some surface paint rust, so I wanted the new
one 'squashed' on there.

Looks good, neat unit.
Fairly easy to install, just a lot of double checking
to make sure you 'get it straight' ... Plus the 'purple
hazes' didn't help time much... doh...
