MAF/intake weirdness

Hooked up my laptop scanner and got very low readings for MAF (less than 1).

Blocking air filter intake does NOT change engine RPM.

Disconnecting MAF from air filter housing, blocking MAF will stall the motor.

MAF is firmly attached attached to filter housing and so is the rest of the intake.

So, WTF???

I don't think the filter housing is (at least on my heaps) anything close to air tight. I just ran out and fired up the RRC and stuck a rag in the intake .....no difference until applying throttle.
