LT77 might as wells

I worked on the truck all weekend with a few test drives, no wheeling. I looked this afternoon and discovered at the very bottom of the bell housing a "chunk" is missing. It is about 1/8" long and seems to be through to the interior of the housing. Not sure what would cause this, or how to fix it. Is it possible to replace the bell housing or what. I guess the question is if I do have to pull this thing(which I think I do) what should I do since I have it taken apart.

thanks,
Bill
