Thumbs down Lt230 Refit

How difficult is it to mate an LT230 t-case from a Disco II to a 1994 D-90? What additional parts/labor (if any) are required?

Cofion,

Nil

Now I am no expert but, I think you need the output housing off of the Defender T-case as the one on the Disco does not have the speedo output. And I am also not sure about the input gear, the splines on the autos output gear are a differnt length then those on the R380s. Like I said, this is just from what I have read.

you need to change the mainshaft in the trans or find a 2in style input gear for the transfer case. You need to swap output housings in the back and you need to remove the solinoid from the top of the t-case and you need to swap the front flange for the smaller D90 flange or use a DII driveshaft.

All and all $$$$

Ron

see my ad in classifieds for a correct D90 case or find an early disco I case (i have one of those too)

Follow-up Post:

you will also lose difflock if the t-case is from mid 2001-2003

Ron,

The point of my questions was because of seeing some Disco LT230s on here for sale. My t-case melted this weekend and my mech and I are looking for one to replace it - cheaply. Let me know what you have for sale.

Disco II is hard to fit was my point. I have a 95 disco I with 45k for $400 or a 94 D90 with 80k for $350 both had diff failures which I replaced with used diffs.

I thought you bought a DII and that is why you were asking.

both will bolt right on as I pulled the solinoid in the disco I case. No additional labor but I would replace input seal as a matter of course
