LT230 1.2 or 1.4

God I havent posted for the longest time ...

I know this has been beaten down before but just cant seem to find it.

I am ordering a R380 mated to a lt230 from Ashcroft with all the bells and whistle and wondering if I should go with 1.2 or 1.4 gearing.

The truck is a tweaked large intercooler 200tdi 110 and runs on 33" mud terrain.

Have to give an answer tomorrow morning ....

Thanks everyone !

Pat

1.4 seems to be the consensus.

2 cents

1.4 works great w/200TDI, I'm using LT77S.

LT77S ratios
1st 3.58:1
2nd - 2.30:1
3rd - 1.51:1
4th - 1:1
5th - 0.83:1
reverse - 3.70:1

R380 Diesel
1st - 3.69:1
2nd - 2.13:1
3rd - 1.40:1
4th - 1:1
5th - 0.77:1
Reverse 3.54:1

R380 Gas V8
1st - 3.32:1
2nd - 2.13:1
3rd - 1.40:1
4th - 1:1
5th - 0.73:1
Reverse 3.54:1

Did you use the ratio calculator tool on the Ashcroft site? For me, the 1.2 seemed a bit better. You'll be running taller tires, so the 1.4 might be the right thing.

That is not correct. The LT77S version supplied with the 200TDi has the same ratios as the diesel R380. The ratios quoted above are for the LT77 from before the TDI.

http://www.red90.ca/rovers/gears.html

My suggestion...if ordering new boxes is to order the R380 with the 0.732 5th gear option and use the 1.4 t. case. With a 1.2, 1st can be a bit high with a loaded 110. Also make sure you get the one piece cross shaft for the center differential.

I have a 1.2, but I have a 2.8. If I had a tdi, I would go with a 1.4. Red offers sound advice.

Thanks for the link Red90

I stand corrected. These numbers must have been from the previous LT77.

Thanks for the link Red90.

I am using the late LT77S and 1.4 LT230. It works well with the 200TDI, LWB with 34" tires and 3.54 diffs.
