LR3 wont start

Hi Guy's

My wife's 2006 LR3 wont start! This is the issue. When trying to start the car the hazard lights flash a couple of times and the doors lock and unlock again. There is also the red P from the parking brake flashing and the alarm light red flash.

I think it might be a bad wire or something else. I tried several forums and google but nothing that i could find was helpfull.

I tried to jump start it nothing i have the feeling its not the battery but a bad wire loose connection.

Any thoughts???????

Cheers Jeroen

The first thing I would check is the Transfer Case Control Module. It is located behind the battery and is likely filled with corrosion. If you remove the battery, you will see a black plastic cover over the module which has three connectors, remove the connectors and see if it is wet and/or green with corrosion. If it is you can try cleaning it, but you will likely need a new TCCM which requires SDD to program.

Jimmy, I think you missed your calling as a neurosurgeon. You are young though and still have time for med school.

Check your battery. I had similar issues with a near dead battery.

Haha yeah, I forgot to mention to check the obvious things first. I can't tell you how many times I've spent a significant amount of time diagnosing something only to find a blown fuse.

If it's NOT the TCM, which is an excellent suggestion, at what point does the truck go through the hazard and park brake light ordeal?

When you turn on the ignition just to run (not starting it) does it do the normal "system check in progress" screen and make its clicks and pops and other "start up" noises from under the truck? Do any faults show up on the screen?

Hi guys i just checked the module its clean and dry! So that cant be it. I attached a picture of the connectors. When trying to start the car the doors lock and unlock and the hazard light glash a cpoule of times. Nothing happens. Nobturn over nothing! Its like the car is in a security mode. The red p is flashing same as the red alarm light. So i believe it must be a wire or something like that. I can get the transmission in neutral etc still nothing happens.

Can it be because of the breaklight switch?

Ps there is no system check! Just the red p flashing and the red alarm light.

Battery is good!

Did you actually unplug the connectors to check for corrosion?

I just thought of another thing to check. Look at the wires going into the parking brake actuator. I've seen a handful of those break right before the connector at the actuator. You should be able to access it from the right rear fender well. While I've never seen it, I've heard that the body harness connectors in the left fender well can get corrosion inside of them.

Update.

Ok i got it working! The connectors where dry and clean! No corrosion at all! After i replaced the battery (20 minutes or so) i tried to start the car and it worked! But it threw some faults, transmission went in Fault mode etc. I drove it for some feet and turned it off restarted the car and faults where gone!

But no my sunroof is not working. Very strange! But at least it is running again. Now what could it have been? I don't want to get rid of this car it never let us down! But we live way up north and we need a reliable car. There is no Land rover dealer for 1000 miles!

I will check for the other items you mentioned i hope that might be the case.
Great you guy's can help me out with your thoughts!

Cheers Jeroen

I Would consider a nanocom or maybe someone else has another cost effective way to interface the electronics. Without it, you could have a 1000 mile towing bill for something you could fix under your shade tree. Just my $0.02

This one will be for sale in 3/4 months time, need to get the disco up to scratch first,

But to keep this reply to the tread yes a nanocom is very useful, and like all new vehicles you gotta keep the battery 100%

Hold the either the open or close button (I can't remember which one) down until the sunroof goes through its full travel. It will take about 30 seconds for it to start moving.

Truck must be running. Hold the close side of the switch for 30 seconds. This re-calibrates the sunroof computer (yes, the damn sunroof has its own computer). It may move during this procedure, or it may not.

Use a watch to ensure you hold it for at least 30 seconds.

It will probably start working after that.

They are actually really good trucks. Mine's at 165,000 miles now and I just did the most complex repair yet, which was replacing the water pump.

I do however have a BlackBox Faultmate. Anyone really serious about taking these offroad needs to have one. Simple electronics glitches, while rare, can disable huge swaths of the off-road systems. If you have something like a faultmate you can be back in the game in just a few minutes.

It has been a great car so far! Never had any issues or break downs. So i was very surprised it was not starting.

Ok i tried to recalibrate the sunroof, no luck! I tried while driving, running engine etc nothing happen't
Checked the fuse was also ok. I have no clue was wrong with it.
I will buy a fault reader to see what is wrong with the car. What would you guy's suggest?

Thanks for all the feedback!
