Lower radiator hose pipe crushed?

I have a NAS 97 D-90 SW and I have recently been trying to stop a coolant leak at the radiator side of the bottom radiator hose. After tightening the hose clamp a couple of times without stopping the leak, I decided to pull the hose off the radiator and much to my amazement I found the lower radiator coolant pipe crushed on one side! The other side of the pipe (180 degrees from the crushed side) was still straight. It appears to be reducing the flow area by about 50%. Could I have done this by tightening the hose clamp too much?

Usually happens when someone removes the hose and uses a screwdriver or prybar to loosen and free the old hose.

Yes. I crushed a brand new radiator by tightening the hose clamp. It was the upper one though. I rounded it back out and went easy on the clamp.
