I didnt even know that there was a low fuel light. I just fill up when the swinging gas gauge goes near 1/4.

I'm sure there isn't one on my 94.. My gas guage has't budged and has been on "E" for a couple years. No light has ever come on.. I just keep buying 5 gallons of gas every 50 miles.

The light is technically there in the dashboard, but is NOT connected to anything at all. It will never come on.

Why? Why have a dash light when it is not connected?

I think the early series Rovers had a low fuel level light for the diesel models but not for petrol models. Maybe the light blank is there for the ROW diesel models and they use the same instrument panel for both NAS and ROW?

Hey.. Nice gesture and thanks for the offer. I would like to try a different gauge but I think the problem is most likely the sending unit.
Let me know how much to ship and if it doesn't work I'll send it back to you or pay it forward to someone else that might need a gauge....

Thanks, Mike

Same dash unit is in the NAS D110 and the low fuel light is functional. Mine comes on at about 1/4 tank. FWIW, in the D90, the send is integrated with the fuel pump.

They had the light up to the 300TDI (1994) era. Not sure why it vanished.

Mine is a 90 and the fuel bulb is not functional either. I usually fill around 1/2 if I'm in an unfamiliar area. I also have two Jerrys and a 9 gall aux, but only have the Jerrys full until I actually need the AUX tank.

I asked about this light (and it's circuit) recently and didn't get an answer.

My 1992 (UK Spec 200tdi) has a little circuit board strapped to the harness behind the instrument cluster - very old school british looking. It has ignition power, ground, and the white/slate wire coming out and going to the instrument light (the low fuel light) - this wire is shown in the crappy old schematric for my year - but NOTHING on the circuit board(and nobody had an answer if there is a part number). I assume it is a resistance comparitor that opens a power gate to the light once it hits the right level- but I haven't had it come on yet. Currently running my tank down now that I have the new TD5 light cluster in and I know the light works - no idea about the circuit board.

I'm gonna run it low and see if the light works. If not, I'll pull the circuit board and see if I can get it working.

The circuit diagram just shows the white/slate running to the sensor in the tank that would close contact below a certain level - this would require a three wire fuel level sensor (I seem to remember mine only have two wires) - so the circuit would work around that. Talking to people - having a sensor that closes a contact in a fuel tank (particularly gas vs diesel) is a bit of a sketchy thing - so the comparitor would be a fix for that too

Has anyone cracked the code on this? I'd really like to have the fuel level idiot light work as well. Sending units can have different resistance, so I'm not sure if something like this would work, but it seems a relatively simple circuit is possible:

is the low fuel level warning light functional on the 97 NAS D90? I've never seen mine come on, but the high beam, diff lock and a few other lights on mine don't work either (replaced all the bulbs), I think I need a new hazard light module but they are $$$.

I don't think the low fuel light is functional on the 97 NAS D90. Mine doesn't while all other dash lights function properly.
