drill... just be careful not to go through and get shavings in your tank...

or call a locksmith, they can make a new key for you.

This happened to me years and years ago. Just cut the lock off with a knife. You can cut the top off in sections, then pull it off. Once the cap is off disable the lock and unscrew the threaded part.

Call a locksmith and have them make a key for it.

It's impressive that you get more than one day on a tank!

Jimmy, that's a really good idea. I would have never thought of that. You could use a can of computer duster and hold it upside down.

The gas cap is actually 'unlocked' when it spins freely - and you lock the two together when you turn the key
Thus - when the two bits are frozen together ... the cap can be taken off
another way is to just pull hard on the cap when turning counter clockwise (which is what i have to do everytime)

Just cut it off, it is plastic... or shove any similar key down there and make it work.

!!!???!!! holy crap who gets only a day on a tank!!!

I believe that would be a good indicator of "time to do the tdi swap"... you burn that much fuel and a swap might actually pay for itself...
