Long Range Fuel Tanks... 1984 ROW 110

Did a search through the archives and looked online, but no joy.

I am looking for a long range fuel tank or an extension to the stock tank to hold another 20 gallons or so.

The problem is every web site has tanks for the 1993 - 1999 110 and nothing is recommended for the earlier 110.

Gustavo showed me a really nice plastic tank on display at Conclave that filled the underside panel under the wheel well and had 2 short filler hose fittings. The tank is connected by 2 short hose sections instead of the long filler hose and the fuel passes through the aux tank, fills up the stock tank and then fills up the aux tank. Typical add on tank, but again it was not for the early 110.

Any suggestions for vendors?

I would build some, but am tied up with the Mercedes OM617 conversion kits at the moment.

not bad! That's the model I need as it works with the rollcage support due to the notch.

Earlier tanks should be the same as 1993-1999. Maybe the filler neck is slightly bigger, but that's all.

Thanks, we'll see when it gets here.
I'll post some pictures because we have quite a few 83 - 88 ROW 110s here.

Does this tank use a separate filler neck or does it piggy back onto the original tank?

I was hoping to use something like this tank for my WVO project.

I have a set of steel tanks that came on a Saudi spec 110 . Same description, small fenderwell tank that is sandwiched between main (very much larger) and filler. For a diesel truck unless someone wanted to set them up with an external pump for petrol.

......just read the whole post and see you have it sorted but I'll leave this up in case anyone else is looking.

Did a trial fit last Friday before leaving for MAR and the tank from LRDirect actually extends the main tank, so on petrol models there is no need for an additional fuel pump. Pretty nifty setup, but with the odd shape a line is needed to fully drain the added tank. There is a welded bung that came with a barb fitting which I will connect to the diesel return line fitting on the original tank.

Only real issue was having to figure out how to install it because there are no instructions included.

It took a little while to figure out that the original filler assembly is removed and a later style filler is included, but you need the body gasket and filler cap from the later Defender for the 1986 we have.

Will get some pictures and Matt feel free to post some of your setup as well.
