Locking gas cap tethered?

Hi, I want to install a locking gas cap, but I like that mine is tethered and I can't be a bonehead and drive off without it.

So far I have only found locking caps, or tethered caps for sale - but not both.

Anyone know if one is made and if so where I can get one?

I'm not sure if there are tethered ones available or not, but what I make myself do when filling up is leave my keys in the cap while removed and fueling up, and then pull them out when I lock the cap and twist in back in. (i.e. if I try to drive off without my gas cap, I'm also trying to start my ride without keys.)

Mine is tethered to the body. It looks like this (though mine came with the truck when I bought it - not sure if aftermarket or not):

Reinforcing reminders are good, but I would really like to have it tethered though...

I replaced mine with a tethered, after losing my original on the way to Uwharrie Safari last year. Was wanting a locking one that was tethered, but between the two, the choice is simple.

Perhaps you could switch the cap in the tether loop? They look pretty flexible

The locking caps don't have the retaining ring for the tether.

Right. It was just a thought - the tethered cap I have has a ring on the end of the tether to hold the cap and allow it to turn. It looks like its possible to remove the cap from the ring and then work the ring over the threads of a locking cap.

I have a locking gas cap for Defender that you can have for free - no tether though. Just pay for shipping.
It includes 2 keys. The lock scared me once when I had a hard time jiggling the key to open it - haven't used it since.

I'll take it if he's not interested.

There's a loop on the inside of the fill tube and also the inside of the fuel cap, at least on mine. The cap was tethered to the fill tube using a chain. I removed the chain because sometimes the chain would catch on the lip of the fill tube and I'd have to fight to free it.

Tethered locking cap

Why not drill a small hole in the locking cap and pop a rivnut in it, then attach a new tether to it? Thin stainless braided, which you could cover with heat shrink to prevent abrasion to the body, or some 200lb mono, crimped would seem to work well.

SeattleRRC- don't know if you have a differet cap than I do on my ROW '84, but the locking mechanism is super easy to remove from the cap... on mine anyway.
