Local D90 for sale, not what it seems

Riverside (California) Honda has a 97 D-90 listed on their web site. I recently went to look at it for a friend, even though it's listed as a salvage title for $34,888 (told him that was way too much, but went anyway). After speaking with a sales person (who was following me around asking questions) he eventually told me they were having trouble getting it titled. Apparently two different year D-90's were used to put this one together, and whoever rebuilt it decided to title it as a 97. Unfortunately, a vehicle is supposed to be registered to the year of the frame (in Ca. anyway although I believe that's a federal regulation) which in this case is 1995. So, in case anyone here was looking at this, it's eventually going to be registered as a 95 not a 97. They claim to have several buyers lined up, including one that offered to pay full price, so I figured I'd put this up in case it's someone here or someone who watches this site.

As for the rest of the vehicle, it's missing a lot of little parts and misc. nuts/bolts & screws, most notably in the interior. It's also missing some of the soft top hardware. It runs good with no obvious leaks, and doesn't appear to have any rust but it would be a bit difficult to see in some areas due to the black spray paint that was used to cover what I will assume was surface rust.

This car is been kept and maintain at all times inmaculate condition shiny paint and solid color around the car. Interior comes with upgrades satellite radio and high-end speakers. Soft top is clean and all the vinyl windows are crispy clean no foggy. This is your chance to own a classic Land Rover Defender 90. This is Salvage Title vehicle is been restored to orginal & excellent condition and improved with the right upgrades.
My third grade teacher is probably spinning in her grave about the grammar used in this ad. Maybe the writer has a salvage high school diploma.

All that notwithstanding, the copy begs the question: if the car has always been kept in immaculate condition, why the salvage title?

They always say that.

It looks like its been retired after salvage since 2006. Not sure why they're having issues.

Don't you think someone like a 'manager' would proof read vehicle descriptions before they go out on the web???? Its a Honda dealership, not some shitty 'buy here pay here' place.

Not interested in buying, just to get the story behind it. Who rebuilt it and why, etc.

Not normally a fan of KBX grilles (personal preference for stock look) but it looks pretty sharp on Alpine White...
