Wait, there are trucks that don't make Lifter noise on startup?

If you use a heavier weigh oil, like 15-50, you'll def get some tapping noise at start up due to the ticker flow. But it's a good oil to use , esp if your truck lives in higher temp climates; say... Vegas in the summer months.

I've started putting a bottle of liquid moly oil additives with oil change.

I use Crane Lifters and they DEFINITELY make noise on start up--but only for 5 seconds or less...

Remember to also wet the rubber seal/gasket with some oil before spinning the filter back on.
You shouldn't have much spillage (if at all) since you're only tilting the filter slightly.
This is the right way to do it - but i just fill 3/4 up and wait a minute or so then put it in..
important thing is that your not going in dry...

anyway - an oil change takes 20 minutes or so and is really easy - just watch where you put the pan when you drain it out - and i hold the sump plug to direct the oil away from the exhaust - you'll see what i mean

Is 0W-40 Mobil1 not a thing anymore? That's always been the defacto for the Rover V8, hasn't it?

RP claims ZDDP-rich is problematic for flagship status. E.g., I havta call my local O'Reillys for next-day pickup to get RP HPS, but the one with less ZDDP is a store-stock item.

Rotella every 3000 miles.
The 15W-40 Rotella T with Triple Protection oil has approximately 1200 ppm of zinc and 1100 ppm phosphorus at the time of manufacture.

^^ this ^^

My local buddies have torn down their motors after years of running this oil and they are never sludgy inside.

My Rovers always have some noise on startup after a few days of sitting.
Goes away in 10 seconds or so.

Speaking of Shell Rotella, do you guys know the ZDDP level in the T6 synthetic oil?
I've been using M1 10w40 synthetic... and not sure if I should switch to Shell.

4th on Rotella. I've not been using it forever but I'm running three rovers on it currently. Home Depot has a good price for 4qts jugs @ $13. Advanced Auto matches their price if you ask them to.

Eastwood offers a ZDDP additive to help flat tappet engines. I run it in my E-type with no issues.
