Lift gate upper hinge bracket pictures / question

Getting things prepped to install my series liftgate and tried to fit the upper hinge brackets but it seems that one corner is too long and will not allow the bracket to go into place.

Can anyone confirm if the part hanging down needs to be cut off or am I just trying to install this improperly?

Anyone have some pictures of their upper hinge bracket?

I can't tell from the pic where you are trying to mount that, but it goes in the roof with the flat part up against the back wall on the inside. That is a series bracket and the roof may be different, but I doubt it. Also, I believe they are handed (ie a right and a left side).

Follow-up Post:

I think the "ear" sticking out goes toward the outside.

the pic does not show where I am trying to mount it, it is sitting on the liftgate in the pics.

Ron you are correct the mounts are from a series and they are handed, when I was attempting to mount it I held it flat against the top but it did not seem to go far enough into the center as the lower part would not allow that to happen.

Jeff,

Is this true for mounting it on a Defender or just Series?

Thanks
