LED Marker Lights?

Hi,

One of my front marker lights (next to headlights) just burned. It's the third that's burned out since I bought the truck. My Disco-driving friend suggests I replace them with LEDs, since LEDs have a greater tolerance for voltage variations and they last longer.

Has anybody ever done this? Are there off-the-shelf replacements available?

Thanks,

Chris

There are drop-in replacements for almost all common automotive bulbs now actually. A buddy of mine bough from these guys, I haven't gotten around to testing them myself yet.

I would love to hear what you think of them after you put them in, and $$ to upgrade. I was thinking of doing it to.
Thanks
Michael

I'm interested also. I am a total idiot when it comes to electronics. Are all bayonet bulbs for automotive use pretty much the same? I am hesitant to buy online without matching it up to the bulbs that are in my truck know. I think Arbik, a member on this board did the interior lights in his 90 with LED. I'll email him and tell him to chime in on this.

Hey Kelly,

I bought a set of LED lights from a forum member, but the blinkers won't run at the same rate unless you have a resistor in series with it.
I'm in Burbank as well, (and Arbi's buddy) so I can show them to you if you want. I haven't hooked them up because of the resistor. I've seen Arbi's interior lights, they look pretty cool.

You can also get non-resistance type blinker modules designed for LED turn signals. Quick and easy replacement too, as the blinker modules are plugged in similar to relays.

It look nice, much more bright. If you stay with
a size that can fit your lamp, it's a plug & play operation.
I'm buying mines from superbrightleds.com, good prices
and all the tech info you may need.

It depends of led bulb size (from 9 leds to 24, 30 don't fit).
Small led bulbs are around 3 to 4 USD, bigger around 5 to 7.
Watch out, in EU specs, tail of lamp is not standard, change
with lamp color. Anyway, even with the smallest tail size
(clear lens lamp), you can fit a 24 led bulb (18 frontward, 6
on sides).
In my case i'm also changing all my lamps to clear lens color.
