Leaking top swivel pin

I've been searching and reading the Forum but can't find if this has been answered before.

The top swivel pin is leaking oil on my 1986 MoD 90. This is getting on my brakes which is not good.

I torqued the 2 bolts to 50 ft/lb but this did not help.

Looking at the manual and reading the Forum threads I only see references to shims and not a gasket or seal. Do the shims act as the seal?

At this point I am assuming that one or more of the shims is cracked, causing the oil leak.

I am considering pulling the swivel pin, cleaning and inspecting the shims, putting a thin coat of RTV on everything and re-torquing. Since the steering is fine, I'd rather avoid new shims since it seems I'd need to re-set the pre-load on the swivel pin.

Open to better ideas.

You're on the right track....you'd need to re-set the pre load anyway.

While I know this doesn't "fix" your swivel pin leak... Land rover did an update on the swivel pin lubrication to the newer one-shot grease... It's somewhere between the consistency of oil and moly grease.. I change all of my stuff to this and have zero to no leaks anymore.. It's readily available and easy to do.. 3 tubes does both fronts..just drain out the oil from the lower drain plug.. Turn the wheel to one side and fill in by the square plug midway up on the forward section of the swivel hub..
