Land Rover Mechanic Recommendation in CO

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a 1994 NAS Defender 90 to keep at my home in Crested Butte, CO. For those of you who don't know where CB is, it is about 30 miles of Gunnison, CO.

My question is if anyone might a have a good suggestion for a mechanic in that part of the world? I have called around to a few shops and most everyone in the Valley doesn't want to touch it because it is a Land Rover. Kind of crazy I know, but any suggestions from the group would helpful.

Thanks,
Alex

Sorry, Tex, it's Durango, various Denver Metros/CS's, or a Brit shop in GJ, last I heard...

Congrats with CB. It is a beautiful town.
There is a 4x4 shop in Montrose next to the end of the airport. Granted, that is 90 miles away, but I've seen a few Defenders, D1/2s and RRCs there over the years.
What kind of work are you looking for?

Rover Mechanic

Crested Butte is a little off the beaten path for Rover shops. Nothing comes to mind in that area. What needs to be done?

Again, check in with Sky High right there in Crested Butte.

Here's a recent shop project.

Thanks for the recommendations. I bought the D90 from someone off this board. Needs new gaskets and probably a radiator as it was running pretty hot when I drove it over McClure pass. Somewhere along the way an after market muffler was installed (I knew this when I bought it), so I might have them change it back to an authentic LR system.

Initially, I took it to the LR Dealer in Glenwood Springs and just had them do a full diagnostic -- nothing too shocking (except the price), so I found another group called Highline Autoworks in Glenwood. Anyone heard of this shop? Guys name is Patrick and seems pretty knowledgable.

New gaskets? As in head gaskets? Starting to sound like you need to consider a known quantity. You may want to start thinking more in terms of where to find a car trailer to rent every now & then. Do you drive up from Texas in a Suburban like everyone else?

Alex Uncle Douglas is in Crested Butte at this very moment, AND he has his tools with him! Hint hint. Pm him and see if he will take a long at your truck. At the very least have a beer with him.

I was in Crested Butte that afternoon.
Had lunch @ Secret Stash on Elk Ave.
Went up and over Kebler Pass and back to Marble
Gorgeous country.

It wasn't a recreation trip. Dave Stauffer here on the forum gave my son Trey a rolling 110 3 door van shell,
we had some time to burn while he was @ work. Left the next morning & towed it back to Virginia.

Doug,
You didn't do Schofield? That is a great trip. Any chance you hit up Slo' Groovin"? Good BBQ and very enjoyable area. Paonia is also a great area a few old Series in the barns out that way.
