Knocking when low RPMs but Accelerator depressed near floor

So, I have a new sound. Say, I should be in 3rd gear, but I'm really in 4th and at a low-ish speed. In this example, when I depress the accelerator near the floor in 4th to get up to speed, I'm getting a knocking sound. Fuel level is at 3/4 (I just put in $40) and SHOULD be premium...could this sound just be attributed to low octane fuel? Oil level is just fine, too. Twice today, when pulling out onto a street in 1st gear from a complete stop, I got a knocking sound that sounded just like the sound you'd hear before the fuel fully cuts out on an empty tank.

Sounds like pre-detonation which can be due to various reasons but usually due to ignition timing (including advance) or fuel quality.

Does your oil light flicker at all when at idle?

mine seems to have started doing this exact same thing when I lug the engine in too high of a gear. I dont exactly know when it started doing this. I honestly dont pay it any mind, Ive never ran out of fuel so I cant comment.

Isn't this simply that you are in too low of a gear and the engine doesn't have the power/torque to handle the load? I think the answer is just to downshift

No oil flicker. That was the first thing I figured was low pressure. I had put all new oil in about two weeks ago and topped her off.

Charles that's the obvious solution. It's a rather new sound to the truck though. Only really happens in 4th, and aside from that it doesn't really worry me except for the no fuel sound when starting off in 1st.
